
On 22nd July 2009, an instant survey was conducted among 20 individuals around Elephant& Castle, including 11 students, 7 workers, 1traveller and 1 retired person. Also, a disabled person was in the samples. Age of 21-30 occupied 50%, over 50 years old for 30% , age of 31-40 for 15% and left 5% was age of 41-50 .The purpose of the survey was to discover the problems of the tube in London.
The survey was carried out by means of a questionnaire. There are 4 questions. The first one was concerned the frequency of taking tube. The second one concerned the price. The third one was about 3 most serious problems, including organization, management and tube environment. The last one focused on the satisfied degree from interviewees.
The main findings were as follows. The majority who took the tube 0-4 times every week, 65%; this was followed by 5-10 times a week, 15%; while 11-15 times was selected by 5%. Concerning the price of tube, 30% of the interviewees considered it was expensive and equal percentage of persons chose 'just fine'. Similarly , 25% of individuals thought it was very expensive while 15% of them regarded it was very cheap. Nobody chose cheap.
Next on plenty of problems of tube, involving strike. narrow aisles ….and so on . A significant result reveal that the most serious problem went for that 'overcrowded in rush hours' , marked by 38 scores. ' Dirty ' was ranked second with 16 scores. Besides, 'unclear direction 'and 'noise ' with 11 scores respectively .
By way of conclusion ,some general comments could be draw from the survey, although the size of samples was inadequate. It seems that majority considered the price of tube was expensive or just fine. In addition , most people were unsatisfied with organization and management and the environment of tube, such as overcrowding in rush hours, dirty, noisy, and unclear direction.
However, overall the majority commented the tube was 'just fine'.
